Mystery at the Tubs
Jon Myers
One day, about eight of us were at the Tubs. We were at the top one, where you could jump in and there was a little waterfall. Kelly Warner, a freshman was there, and Rick Cohen and I’m just not sure who else. It was a hot day and the water and shade felt cool and great. Probably late spring of 1973.
This particular part of the Tubs, as you might recall, has a steep hill leading down to it on the opposite side of where we normally entered. So, after about an hour of hanging out, jumping in, cooling down, I heard a branch crack on the steep hill side and looked. I saw Kelly look as well. We were both standing in the water.
What we saw was a man, incongruously walking up that steep hill. A man in farmer’s overalls and a hat. His back toward us. How did we miss his presence there? He was only 25 feet away, yet none of us had been aware of someone there. He continued to walk up the steep hill, step by step. Then. . . he turned around. What Kelly and I saw was something we will never forget.Â
The man turned and looked at us but he had no face...only a dark emptiness where the face and head would be. Kid you not. This happened. Maybe others of us saw this entity.Â
